Synaptogenesis in zebrafish:

We are using the touch response assay, immunostaining and live imaging to

dissect mechanisms involved in forming functional synapses in the embryonic

zebrafish spinal cord. We are currently concentrating on the cell adhesion

molecules Neuroligin and SynCAM and on the function of NMDA receptors

in gaining functionality of synapses.

Downstream signaling of cell adhesion molecules:

We are using neuronal cultures from rat and mouse cortex to determine the

methods by which the cell adhesion molecules signal to the intracellular milieu to

bring about recruitment of pre- and postsynaptic molecules. We are also

generating transgenic mice to determine the function of the adhesion molecules

In vivo.
