| Note: Glassware that has held these solutions is no longer suitable for live fish. The waste solutions from the acid-alcohol and Alcian Green can be collected together along with the first rinse water, in an "organic waste" bottle. The TCA is collected in a separate bottle along with the first rinse. These are given to your local hazardous waste collection agency. The glycerol-KOH can be washed down the sink with running water. |
Procedure for Making Probes
|
These are made by using 6" lengths of 1.2 mm OD glass electrode capillaries pulled apart over a Bunsen burner flame to make 2, approximately 3" long, tapered tip probes. The opposite ends are simply fire polished to make a smooth end.
