NB 3-1 generates the RP1,3,4,5 motoneurons which innervate muscles 6,7,12 and 13 in thoracic segments and A1. This series of movies also demonstrates the posteriorly projecting intersegmental interneurons and shows that only local projections derive from anteriorly projecting interneurons. There is also a robust dendrite extending anteriorly; according to the back-fill studies of Sink and Whitington, it is derived from RP5. |

NB 3-1 clone in upper abdomen: Muscles 14,28 and 30 do not form in A1, and their endings are absent from these RP motoneurons. Innervation patterns are the only segment specific difference in the 3-1 lineage; in all other respects the NB 3-1 clones in thorax and abdomen are identical. Four ways to view the same clone: upper left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI labeled clone; sections are 1.5 microns. The movie begins at the dorsal surface of the NB 3-1 clone. upper right panel is a projection of z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI alone. lower left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI-labeled clone in en-GFP background. lower right panel is a projection of the z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI with en-GFP.
In all cases, anterior is up. |
