The NB 3-1 clone is in T2 and a NB 6-1 clone is in T1.

NB 3-1 generates the RP1,3,4,5 motoneurons as well as both intersegmental interneurons and local interneurons. Its intersegmental interneurons project posteriorly, its local interneurons project anteriorly. In thoracic segments, muscles 14,28 and 30 do not form. We find the RP endings for those muscles also do not form in thoracic segments, as clearly seen in these movies.

(NB 6-1 on top and

NB 3-1below it):

Thoracic segments do not produce muscles 14,15,28 or 30, and these motoneuronal endings are also absent from thoracic isoforms of the RP motoneurons. We observe the RP motoneurons innervate thoracic ventral muscles (6,7,12 and 13); NB 3-1 clones also generate anteriorly projecting local interneurons and posteriorly projecting intersegmental interneurons. We also observe a dendrite projecting anteriorly.

Four ways to view the same clones

upper left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI labeled clone; sections are 1.5 microns. Movies begin at the dorsal surface of the clone.

upper right panel is a projection of z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI alone.

lower left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI-labeled clone in en-GFP background.

lower right panel is a projection of the z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI with en-GFP.

In all cases, anterior is up. Both clones are in thoracic segments.
