NB 2-5 generates motoneuron(s) innervating muscles 15,16 and 17 and intersegmental and local interneurons. It also makes a segmental nerve glial cell and it occasionally makes a PNS sub-clone (not shown here). This clone is from a thoracic segment. |

Thoracic NB 2-5: NB 2-5 produces another of the clones in which we've observed a medially displaced cell that makes contact with the axons of lineally related cells as they enter the commissure. This clone generates plurisegmental interneurons---interneurons that project all the way to the brain, no matter which segment the clone originates in. In these movies we see the medially displaced cell and another large cell dorsally---both of which may be these intersegmental interneurons. We don't know whether they are dedicated to purely ipsilateral or purely contralateral projections, or whether each axon bifurcates to send out both types of neurites. There is a large number of local interneurons and a dorsally located, small motoneuron that projects to SNd targets 15,16 and 17.
Four ways to view the same clones upper left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI labeled clone; sections are 1.5 microns. The movie begins at the dorsal surface of the clone. upper right panel is a projection of z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI alone. lower left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI-labeled clone in en-GFP background. lower right panel is a projection of the z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI with en-GFP.
In all cases, anterior is up. |
