NB 2-2 in the thorax generates a sub-perineurial glial cell, formed in the abdomen by NB 1-1. We chose these clones because they show the SPG-A cell so beautifully, and because they demonstrate the pioneer cell/ lineage self-recognition (see Schmid et al, 1999) that we believe to be a function of medially displaced cells at the entry of interneuronal projections into the commissures. |

NB 2-2 At the dorsal surface of this clone, SPG-A is visible, along with dendritic extensions of SNa motoneurons in the ipsilateral longitudinal connective. Interneuronal projections across the midline end in complex arborizations in the contralateral longitudinal connective, and posteriorly projecting intersegmental interneurons extend axons by stage 17. The motoneurons are dorsal in the clone and extend axons into SNa, ending on muscles 21,22 and 23.A large population of interneurons is more ventrally located. Two ways to view the same clones: left panel is a confocal z-series of DiI labeled clone; sections are 1.5 microns. right panel is a projection of z-series, rotated 45 degrees about y-axis. DiI alone. In all cases, anterior is up. |
