The formation of synapses during postnatal development is absolutely critical for establishing cognitive functions. It is thought that errors in establishing synapses during development can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, mental retardation and Rett syndrome. We are studying the basic neurobiological mechanisms of synapse formation in rats, mice and zebrafish. |
